About Our Paper

Our papers are made from 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper (like shredded office paper and junkmail), recycled cotton linter, used fine art papers, various local plants (like leek stalks, iris leaves, Japanese knotweed, corn husks), and purchased natural fibers (like abaca, bamboo and cotton rag.***.) Many fibers require cooking with soda ash or detergent before being rinsed and beaten into pulp for paper. We color our papers with a variety of techniques, from tempera tints, to specialized pigments designed specifically for papermaking. With our recycled papers we frequently add in things like colored napkins or tissue paper to create a unique color paper.
You can use our papers for fine art applications like printmaking, bookmaking, letterpress printing, painting and drawing (we sure do!), but you can also use them for fun scrapbooking projects, for letter writing, or journaling. Depending on its intended use, our papers can be heavy duty and thick like cardstock, or thin and wispy like tissue paper. Custom orders for all types of uses are encouraged. We're comfortable working on orders both big and small in scale. Email us to discuss your custom needs and get a price and time quote.
Most of our moulds/deckles are 8.5 x 11" in size. We do have a larger 11 x 17", 12" x 15" and 22 x 30" moulds. If you need a special size, let us know and we will do our best to make it work.
***Once we get a more powerful beater we will be able to regularly make paper from used clothing like jeans, bed sheets and cotton t-shirts in a sustainable way. We'll also be able to process flax and overbeat abaca to translucency. Our current beater is a slow and steady workhorse and it takes up to 8-15 hours to process used clothing. With a new beater we'll be able to process clothing into rag pulp in 1-3 hours. Want to help us purchase a new beater? Contribute to our Patreon campaign.
