Handmade Paper for Beginners - Check back for a spring 2019 date!
In this 1 day class (10 am - 4 pm with an hour break for lunch) we'll explore the process of making paper by hand. You will learn the basic techniques of Western papermaking including pulp preparation in our Oracle Hollander Beater, sheet forming, pressing in our Aardvark 12-Ton Press, and drying in our custom made restraint drying box.
We will prepare pulp from various seasonal fibers such as iris leaves or corn husk in addition to fibers such as cotton, abaca and bamboo. Participants will form their own sheets and explore the possibilities of embedding materials such as dried flowers and plants, thread, and seeds. We'll use a variety of dyes and pigments, making as many sheets of paper as we have time for!
Suitable for ages 16 and up, class size is limited to 6 students. Workshop fee is $95, and includes cost of materials.
